Seacombe, East Portlemouth

This place takes your breath away. We've only been here a few days, and we're already planning our second visit. The building is an RIBA regional award winner, with the most incredible ocean view. The design is contemporary (and very clever) but without being pretentious... It takes full advantage of the natural light and surrounding views. I have zero criticisms here, this place is perfect... Massive credit to the architect and the owners. - Guest

Kestor, Moretonhampstead

— We trusted from the outset that Annie would provide professional and reliable input into the process. Annie demonstrated that she knew what we were trying to achieve and added strong technical knowledge and vision throughout. Our planning application with the Dartmoor National Park was trouble free and smoothly negotiated including working with an ecologist to ensure that protected wildlife was sympathetically managed. Annie was also both calm and firm with a difficult builder and helped us navigate the inevitable build challenges further exacerbated by COVID. Annie brought in strong specialist skills including introducing and working closely with the interior designer so that the style of the finished product was complimentary to the architectural changes envisioned and delivered. - Client

Westering, Chagford: new dwelling

'Annie Martin worked with us from original concept through design, planning, detailed design, tendering, project management and snagging. We had had some experience of working with architects before where we never felt quite in control of the project and that the result would be their statement rather than our home. With Annie it was different, she was collaborative and supportive while at the same time very knowledgeable and professional. She was particularly thorough on the process and detail, so that our plans were accepted by Dartmoor National Park Planning at first submission despite the fact that it was a very modern design, and during construction there was rarely any ambiguity about exactly what was required from the builders. We have now been living in the home she helped us create for three and a half years and it has stood the test of time. It is both beautiful and very workable.' Client, James Warner

The Oaks, New dwelling, Exeter

'It was a beautiful autumn evening when we stood with Annie at our somewhat intimidating building site and decided to embark on an unusual and challenging project together. From that moment to handing us back the impressive modern building that we are now very lucky to call our home, she was a real pleasure to work with. Through all aspects of the project, from planning to identifying and engaging trades and suppliers, she offered her professionalism and genuine understanding of high-specification buildings, as well as sound advice and friendly reassurance. Annie worked well with the contractors to find cost-effective solutions that met both aesthetic and statutory requirements, always assertively and effectively but without taking-over. She has a strong eye for detail, and an extraordinary ability to produce beautiful sketches for on-the-spot ideas that were later followed up with detailed plans and CGIs that were readable and exciting! I highly recommend Annie’s expertise and general approach; she would be the first person we call about any conversion or building project in the future.' - Client

New dwelling 'We approached Annie with just an outline brief for our newly purchased plot in 2014 and, since then, she helped us with every stage of the project. We are so pleased with and proud of the finished house and everyone that visits loves it. The dwelling sits off a busy access road however the house and gardens feel welcoming and private whilst still taking advantage of the panoramic views over the road of Exeter. We value her judgement on all aspects from landscaping, fit out, and even furniture. Despite various complications during the construction, we have always worked as a team and a grateful to her dedication and perseverance. We have become firm friends in the process.' - Clients

I can highly recommend Annie, She was a pleasure to work with and extremely professional. We are over the moon with the design, the brief was contemporary and minimalist and that is exactly what we got and so much more. Annie's knowledge of local planning was enormously helpful in gaining planning permission. She was able to overcome issues with over looking other houses and we particularly love the glass and wood bridge, which over came the access problem. She also recommended some other professionals who were all excellent. I would definitely use her again, hopefully one day ! - Sarah - Client
