Threeways, is set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of Ringmore. The elevated site, set into the side of the valley, is orientated west, facing down the hill, towards the sea.
Fitting into the landscape.
- The design is inspired by the relationship to the garden, the panoramic views towards the sea and from the natural contours of the site. The ground adjacent to the dwelling remains largely unchanged.
- To minimise the number of steps required to reach the proposed dwelling from the parking area entry is provided at ground floor level. From here it opens up to the kitchen/ dining area and onto the lower garden level. Once inside an internal stairs leads onto the first floor bedrooms and living room which has direct access to the higher garden area.
- The simple, pitched roof, and first floor walls are clad in slate, suggestive of rural vernacular and natural surroundings, combine to reduce the visual impact of the building. The entrance and sliding glazed doors to the southeast elevation are set back to provide weather protection as well as to further reduce the apparent weight of the dwelling. The ground floor walls and garden retaining walls are clad in stone.
Construction started in spring 2017 with completion due in 2018.
